Korean in chunks.

An app that teaches you to say things in Korean. A few words at a time, one grammar rule at a time, and you type the answer instead of tapping tiles. No streaks, no ads, no account.

What makes it different

Most language apps are built to keep you opening the app. Hanipi is built to get Korean out of your mouth. That changes almost every design decision.

Answering

Hanipi You type the Korean yourself. Word-bank tiles appear only as a recovery step after a miss.

Most apps You tap tiles from a word bank. It feels like mastery and isn't.

Grading

Hanipi Answers are judged on meaning. A different but correct phrasing is marked correct.

Most apps The answer has to match the expected string.

Order

Hanipi Every word is introduced on its own before it appears in a sentence. Grammar arrives only once you have the words it needs.

Most apps Full sentences from day one, with the grammar explained in a tips tab, if at all.

Motivation

Hanipi No streaks, no hearts, no leagues, no daily goal. One honest number: what you recalled, and after how many days.

Most apps Streaks, hearts, leagues and reminders. Missing a day costs you something.

Scope

Hanipi Korean only. The alphabet, the keyboard, the politeness levels and the particles are taught for what they are.

Most apps Dozens of languages on one engine, so Korean gets the same lesson shape as Spanish.

Account

Hanipi None. No sign-in, no analytics, no ads. Your progress lives on your phone.

Most apps An account, an ad SDK and an analytics SDK before the first lesson.

Money

Hanipi The free app never shrinks. One lifetime purchase for all content, and a small subscription only for cloud AI. Both optional, independent, no trial that auto-converts.

Most apps Ads, or a subscription that unlocks everything at once and starts with a trial.

How it teaches

The same principle at every scale: nothing is asked of you before its parts are in place.

  1. m
  2. eo
  3. k

Letters first

Hangul is taught letter by letter. ㅁ, ㅓ and ㄱ stack into one block, and the alphabet trainer brings back the letters you struggle with more often, on a spaced-repetition schedule. A cheat sheet is one tap away, any time.

저는 커피를 마셔요
I coffee drink

Words before sentences, one rule at a time

Every new word is introduced on its own before you meet it inside a sentence. Grammar arrives only when you have the words it needs, explained in a paragraph and used at once. A session opens with a few things you already know, peaks in the middle and lands on lighter work — at most eight new words a time.

  1. Level 1 The sentence and its glue
  2. Level 2 Time, negation, questions
  3. Level 3 Joining, ability, register

Grammar deep-dives with drills

Thirty-five lessons in three levels. Each has a cheat sheet and drills, and you can explain a rule in your own words and have the explanation checked.

저는어제커피를 마셨어요 heard: 마셔요

Reading aloud, word by word

A short passage is composed from sentences you have met and words on your own deck. You read it a line at a time; your phone's speech recogniser listens, and a word it heard differently is marked on the line — tap it to hear it spoken. Optional, and the microphone is asked for only when you first tap it.

What's inside

Everything below is in the app today. Most of it runs on your phone and works offline.

  • 01

    Scenes

The course is a sequence of conversations: saying hello, ordering at the café, what you did yesterday, your plans. Each scene introduces its words, then one rule, then has you build the sentences.

  • 02

    Alphabet trainer

Hangul letter by letter, with spaced repetition on the ones you miss and a cheat sheet one tap away.

  • 03

    Keyboard tour and typing drills

Learn where the letters are on the Korean keyboard and get fast at typing them, because you type your answers.

  • 04

    Grammar deep-dives

Thirty-five lessons in three levels, each with a cheat sheet and drills. Explain a rule in your own words and have the explanation checked.

  • 05

    Flashcards and your own deck

Words from the scenes land on your deck automatically. Add your own, and the scheduler spaces them all.

  • 06

    Read aloud

A passage composed from what you know, read a line at a time. Your phone's speech recogniser marks the word it heard differently.

  • 07

    Roleplay

A short exchange with an AI partner inside a scene you have finished: a goal to reach, and only words you have met.

  • 08

맞춤 — a session about anything

Type a topic — ordering at a café, your cat, a K-drama scene — and get a short session made from the words you know, with a voice on every line. It stays in your journey and replays for free.

  • 09

    Stats that mean something

The stats screen leads with delayed recall: “You recalled 아직 안 먹었어요 after 23 days.” That is the number that predicts whether you can speak.

  • 10

    Works offline

The whole course is on your phone. Only the exercises that need a judgement about meaning reach a server, and when they cannot, they fall back and tell you so.

  • 11

No account, no ads, no tracking

There is no sign-in and no analytics or advertising SDK of any kind. Your progress stays on your device.

  • 12

    English and German

The whole app is in both, following your phone's language. German uses du throughout.

What an AI moment is

Most of Hanipi runs on your phone and costs nothing per use. A few judgements arithmetic cannot make: whether a differently phrased answer still means the same thing, whether your explanation of a rule is right, the next turn of a roleplay, a passage to read aloud composed from what you know. Those run on cloud AI, and each one is a moment. Everyone gets 20 a week; the AI Tutor subscription makes it 200.

  • Repeats are free: a cached answer costs nothing.
  • The count is on screen while you study and resets every Monday.
  • When it runs out, the exercise still works. You lose the AI, not the lesson.
